SHIMLA — The Himachal Pradesh government has released a massive financial aid package of over ₹150 crore for families devastated by the 2025 monsoon disaster. This comprehensive relief effort includes a ₹141.61 crore first installment specifically for the reconstruction of homes and an additional ₹8.97 crore to provide rental assistance for displaced families.
To ensure those whose homes became uninhabitable have a place to stay, the state is providing monthly rental support of ₹10,000 in urban areas and ₹5,000 in rural areas, an initiative that has already benefited 2,817 rural and 88 urban families out of the nearly 16,488 families affected by the 2025 natural calamities. In a move described as a historic hike in compensation rates, the state government has utilized its own resources to significantly increase the financial support under a special relief package.
The relief for fully damaged houses has been surged from ₹1.30 lakh to ₹7 lakh, while assistance for partially damaged katcha and pucca structures is now fixed at ₹1 lakh. Furthermore, compensation for the loss of household goods has been hiked to ₹1 lakh for homeowners and ₹50,000 for tenants. For the first time, new provisions have also been introduced to cover modern agricultural and logistical challenges, offering ₹50,000 for silt or debris removal and ₹25,000 for polyhouse damage. Despite a total estimated loss exceeding ₹16,500 crore over the last three years, the state spokesperson emphasized their commitment to restoring infrastructure like roads, electricity, and water in record time.
