BATHINDA – The Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) turned into a culinary paradise this Thursday during the Lok Vyanjan Mela 2026. As a highlight of the 17th Foundation Week Celebrations, students from over 25 States and Union Territories joined international peers to host a massive food carnival.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari patronized the event, which celebrated India’s “Unity in Diversity” through its rich food heritage. Ms. Heena Gupta, PPS, Superintendent of Police, Bathinda, inaugurated the festival as the Chief Guest.
A Fusion of Regional and International Cuisines
Prof. Yogalakshmi K. N., the event coordinator, reported that more than 56 teams of students and staff members participated. These teams transformed the campus into a vibrant marketplace of regional, traditional, and festive cuisines.
Furthermore, international students added a global touch by serving delicacies from their home countries. Beyond the food, a dedicated stall for Punjabi traditional attire successfully promoted local culture to the visiting crowds.
Health Meets Heritage: The Millet Revolution
One of the most striking features of the Lok Vyanjan Mela 2026 was the focus on nutritious, sustainable ingredients. Students creatively blended modern snacks with traditional health foods, making millet-based preparations a star attraction.
Visitors enjoyed a wide array of unique and traditional dishes, including:
Healthy Innovations: Sabudana Maggi-flavored Khichdi, Ragi Pasta, and Samvat Kheer.
Regional Classics: Litti Chokha, Misal Pav, Vada Pav, and Katori Chaat.
Global Refreshments: Jigarthanda, Afghani Lassi, and Mojitos.
Traditional Desserts: Kolkata-special sweets, Suji Halwa, and various Laddus.
The food carnival acted as a vibrant bridge between different cultures, fostering a sense of community among the faculty, students, and their families. However, the celebrations do not end here. The university has scheduled a series of talent-based competitions, including debates, science quizzes, and documentary contests.
Finally, these week-long festivities will reach their peak on February 28, 2026. The university will host a Grand Foundation Day Ceremony to honor its journey and the creative achievements of its students.
