Chandigarh is witnessing a sharp rise in various criminal activities. Recent filings in the Chandigarh crime report include a physical attack on a police officer and multiple high-value cyber scams. Local authorities are now intensifying investigations to track down the offenders. Because public safety remains a priority, the police department has issued several fresh warnings to residents regarding online security.
Three Arrested for Assaulting Constable on Duty
The Sarangpur Police Station recently registered a case against a family for attacking a law enforcement officer. Constable Pawan Kumar alleged that three men abused and assaulted him during his flying duty. The incident occurred on February 19 at approximately 10:15 pm. Consequently, the officer sustained several injuries and required immediate hospitalization for treatment.
Police have identified and arrested the three accused individuals:
- Raj Kumar: A resident of Sector 52-D, Chandigarh.
- Vivek: Son of Raj Kumar.
- Vikash: Son of Raj Kumar.
Officers filed the FIR under multiple sections of the BNS, including 115(2) and 132. Therefore, a detailed investigation is currently in progress to gather further evidence.
Cyber Crime Surge: Residents Lose Thousands Online
Digital scams continue to plague the city, with the Cyber Crime Police Station registering two new cases. In the first instance, an unknown fraudster cheated Revant Gupta of ₹94,900. The victim, a resident of Sector 20-A, fell prey to a fraudulent online shopping deal on OLX. Because the transaction seemed legitimate, the victim transferred the funds before realizing the deception.
In a separate incident, Parit Aggarwal from Sector 40-B reported a similar fraud. He lost an undisclosed amount while attempting to book a hotel online. The police have registered FIRs under sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the BNS for both complaints. These incidents highlight the growing sophistication of cyber criminals targeting city residents through popular digital platforms.
Hit-and-Run Accidents Leave Two Injured
The Chandigarh crime report also includes two alarming hit-and-run accidents. Near the Police Lines in Sector 26, an unknown vehicle struck a resident named Parveen from behind. This accident occurred at 8 pm on February 19. Because the driver fled immediately, the victim remained stranded until help arrived. He is currently recovering in a local hospital.
Another hit-and-run case surfaced from the Sector 33/45 dividing road. Sanjana Devi reported that an unknown motorcyclist hit her and escaped the scene. The victim sustained significant injuries and was admitted to GMCH-32 for specialized care. Finally, the Sector 34 police are scanning CCTV footage to identify the runaway bikers.
